Several weeks ago I took my First Degree Black Belt Test in Modern Kempo Jujitsu. It was the most exhilarating thing I have ever done in my life. But it didn't happen overnight. It took 6 years, 3 broken ribs, one broken toe, a sprained ankle, black eyes and bruises galore and I was knocked-out once, (I volunteered for that last one).
My training regiment consisted of 3 weekly sessions of an hour to an hour and a half each, rotating from traditional Kempo animal forms, traditional kicking, simulation of real-life attacks as well as take-downs and Brazilian Jujitsu.
We all know that staying focused is paramount to success, yet, everyone is multitasking all day long. Living in a modern world with multiple devices draws our attention away from getting things done. So much so, that it's become an epidemic.
Recent studies found that the average employee uses Social Media sites like Facebook for 2 HOURS or more during work hours!!!
We call this jumping from one thing to another Shiny Object Syndrome. It's so addictive, many young people refuse to work for a company that doesn't allow them access to social media during their workday. And it isn't just young people...how many of you find it hard to finish reading a book? Or an online article? There is always something to distract us in this would, but it is the disciplined mind that makes one aware of his [or her] own productivity.
The human brain is simply not built to multitask.
Want to get focused? Tune out everything and tackle one task at a time. Or better yet, listen to my friend and fellow Black Belt Jim Bouchard:
Focus is the only way to make headway in this world today. Get rid of those distractions and spend some time with yourself...without TV, music, The Internet or anything else.
I know, scary in the Digital Age. But getting unplugged for a little while will help you accomplish a heck of a lot. Try it. You'll like it.
Thanks for stopping by...
